Fresh Start
(This post originally appeared in full on my LinkedIn 9/15/2025)
I am pleased to report that I am writing consistently every morning from 4:30 to around 6, a net gain of 90 minutes of writing time.
Not only is this adding to the rough draft of my new novel, but it has actually changed my overall outlook. Getting this out of the way first thing, before anyone is awake, has given me a sense of accomplishment and peace to start the day.
Knowing that I’ve done my fiction work lets me concentrate on my day to day tasks because my obligation to myself is already done.
Anyone who knows me in real life understands what a feat this is. I had to dig deep to realize that in spite of my inclination to live as a night owl, morning is when my brain works best now.
If I can do this every day, the new book should be finished (both writing and editing) by Christmas.
