Have a plan.

(This post originally appeared in full on my LinkedIn 8/29/2025)

My goal has never been just to publish a book. My ambition has always been to take my ideas as far out into the world as they can go.

I frequently catch myself imaging who would play which character in the movie adaptation of More Today Than Yesterday.

For music you could go with the songs from the book (no lyrics in the text to avoid problems, I know what I’m doing) or orchestral or a mix of both.

I also think it would make a cool open world video game with a story mode that follows the plot of the book.

And I’ve speculated about who would be the best reader for the audiobook (if we’re being real here I would love to do this myself. I have no idea if that’s a thing I could ask for but I’m throwing it out there.)

As I’ve been working on the new story I’ve been doing this again.

You could totally make an atmospheric horror game out of the main storyline, with cut scenes to the other one.

An amazing soundtrack would be Bask (my new favorite thing, if they ever collaborated with Jesse Welles I would transcend).

I’ve even fantasized about my favorite YouTube creators and how we could connect these works with what they’re doing.

Writers should think about all the ways their story could reach people, and have that information ready if and when an agent or publisher takes an interest.

It doesn’t mean you’ll get your way, but it does show you have a plan.
