Filling Plotholes

(This post originally appeared in full on my LinkedIn 9/29/2025)

At the beginning of the new schedule, I went back to add new scenes and I thought they turned out pretty garbage.

I’ve been in crunch mode for weeks now, just grinding on adding pages. Since I’m going for volume rather than perfection, I just kept going.

But now that the hole has been filled I am having a hard time writing new scenes in the chronology. The overall state of the manuscript was nagging at me.

So today, instead of working on adding to the story (in either plot line, because I’m a masochist writing in two timelines), I reread the pages I had already written in order.

I did some light editing, but lo and behold, this shit was not bad!

The new scene flowed into the ones before and after, while also correcting the pacing issue.

The protagonist is solid and her motivations are clear.

Maybe I do actually know what I’m doing.

I need to remember that taking the time to review and reflect on the work can, at times, actually be even more important than linear progress.
